« In springtime, the only pretty ring time
» * I'm considering downloading something called Trillian in order to use octopus and bunny emoticons in my AIM conversations. I need them for all my varied octopi moods. I'm feeling very octopus at the moment, actually, probably because I haven't seen "Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory" in the past few hours. * I think I watched Gene Wilder work his magic at least three or four times in the past as many days. Now I have a Willy Wonka poster to put up on my wall, signifying my alliegiance to the Wonka codex. So shines a good movie in a weary world... * I told my father I couldn't eat chocolate for the next month (because of Lent) and he snapped, "Give up chocolate on your own time! Nobody's giving up chocolate in my house!" Then he bought me a pint of Godiva ice cream and chocolate-"chunk" cookies. * New England has some pretty subdued Mardi Grases (plural?). I spent the day knitting a hat, convincing my father I had to register to vote (take that, The League of Women Voters!), sleeping and eating giant bowls of delicious Indian curries. I didn't see anyone flashing their tits for Dunkin' Donuts coupons (the manna of the Northeast), but that doesn't mean it never happened. * I was lying on the couch yesterday and reading about religious fanatical conspiracy theories when I heard Katie, my mother's pseudo-assistant who shares my bathroom, talking to Jeopardy contestants. And not just talking, but encouraging them. I've noticed that my heart is consumed with hatred and violence and misanthropy, because if I were to talk to Jeopardy contestants, I'd yell at them for not knowing "What is Denmark?" and "What is Fear and Trembling?". Katie said, "Oooh! Good job!" and I had to hide my smile behind the Times Book Review. * Some things that effortlessly transform me into a squealing, middle-aged woman in a sweatsuit with kitties embroidered on it: Puppies Baby bats Octopi Bunnies Tiny gloves and mittens intended for human babies Baby rats That one episode of Sesame Street where the worm character's wife is having a baby (or maggots, I guess) and he packs a tiny suitcase full of tiny worm clothes and magazines. Also for some reason these things all fill me with an inexplicable sadness at the very same moment that the overpowering cuteness and heartrendingness is at its peak. Much like "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" which sometimes makes me cry because I love it so much and it's such a solid chunk of childhood, something that instantly makes me pine for elementary school and being the most cosseted, spoiled J.A.P. of all time. Me and Veruca Salt are like psychic twins, although I never got a white mink coat. |
